In observance of National Tennis Month, Mayor Sharon Gipson presented aformal proclamation on May 22, 2025, honoring Coach Venecca G. Green for her exceptional service to tennis and her contributions to community development.

Coach Green, founder of Friends of Battlefield Park NJTL and current head coach for both men’s and women’s tennis at Rust College, has been instrumental in broadening access to tennis for individuals of all ages. Her dedication is in keeping with the United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) nationwide initiative to promote tennis as “the world’s healthiest sport” — a game that cultivates physical fitness,mental resilience, and lifelong enjoyment.

Through Coach Green’s leadership, opportunities to engage in the sport have expanded, making tennis more accessible and inclusive.
